State of the Pregnancy Address

Several people have asked how the pregnancy is going so far, so I thought I'd answer some of your questions today in this State of the Pregnancy Address.

How far along are you?
I am 14 weeks today! Due date is May 19, 2010.

How are you feeling?
I am feeling pretty good now. Weeks 8-12 were rough. Nausea all day long, no appetite (which is weird for an overweight gal like me to just not want to eat!), very tired and achy too. But, the nausea started to go away about a week ago, and my appetite is starting to return too. I'm still really tired, but I'm sleeping well at night, so that is a blessing.

How much weight have you gained?
OK... no one has actually asked me this yet, but I know you are all wondering. I actually lost 5 lbs during the first trimester. Not that you can tell by looking at me, though. And now that my appetite is picking up again, I expect this weight loss won't last much longer.

Have you had any weird cravings?
I had my first pregnancy craving a couple of nights ago. I am craving dill pickles. I know, I know... how cliche! But that's what I've been wanting!

Have you heard the heartbeat?
We have not yet. The doctor tried to find it last week at my 13-week appointment, but because I have a tipped uterus and some *ahem* extra padding in that area, we couldn't hear it yet. So the doctor brought out this awesome portable sonogram so we could take a quick look at baby. We got to see the heartbeat again, and the doctor said the heart rate was about 150. While we were watching, baby literally jumped from one side of the screen to the next, so s/he is very much alive and active in there!

Are you having a boy or a girl?
We don't know yet. I go in on December 29th for my 20-week ultrasound and we will find out then.

Do you want a boy or a girl?
I'm seriously fine with either. Of course I would love a girl, because we want to name her after my mom who passed away when I was 21, but I would be just as happy to find out another boy is on the way. We're just so thankful to be in this place where we are expecting a baby!

What a great Christmas present!

And I too am in the position of mostly wanting a girl because of the name I want to use. Otherwise, for many reasons, boys would work excellently!

(got to do the get-pregnant part first though!)

Congratulations, I know you could not have asked for a better Christmas gift. I know Nathan will be a great big brother. I'm going to pray for a healthy hearty baby, hopefully a girl. Love you, Aunt Becki

BTW. I'm not sure you're on my email loop. We did the get pregnant thing. We went in on December 28th and got to see the heartbeat for the first time!
