Question of the Day

Here is a fun question for you all... "What is something you collected as a child or teen?" And yes, I want an answer. This post is interactive today, so please comment and let us know!

As for me, as a pre-teen and young teenager I collected these things called "Crystal Critters". They were minatures made of clear crystal and sitting on a mirrored base. I can't remember all the ones that I had, but I do remember the first one I ever got was a bear, and I also got a telephone one the same year my parents finally let me have a phone in my room. I also collected prisms, and I hung them in my windows so I could enjoy the rainbows they splashed all over my room.

What about you?

I collected Care Bears and Cabbage Patch Kids. I think we got a lot of CPK's because it was a relatively easy gift idea (for those who knew my collection)! I think I ended up with 15-20 of them. I still have a few, but after they spent many years in a garbage bag while I tried to figure out what to do with them, I got rid of most of them. Aleah now has all my Care Bears (there were only 4 of those), and she has one of the new ones since they are back again! Ok, that's probably more info than you wanted, but you asked! One question for you...what happened to the adorable picture of Nathan in the tux? I really liked that!! Hey, we hope you all come see us soon! Just let us know what works for you!

I am not sure I collected anything specific. I seem to have gone throught phases. Stuffed animals, records (yes that is what we listened to when I was a teenager), I did have a quite a collection of cows at one point in my life. Not real ones, but trinkets, stuffed ones, pictures of cows. I like cows. OK that was random. I guess now I collect friends. The great thing about collecting friends is that they always make you smile and you never have to dust them. Love Ya!!

I was a hot wheel collector. I loved playing with my Hot Wheels. Michael is starting to get into Hot Wheels so I am getting to start a new collection through him!

I was an avid hat collector, button collector and sticker collector. I had hats from all over the world, and many of them had buttons on them. I never wore them, but I had a ton of them. And the stickers rarely got used either. Guess I just liked to collect stuff.

Ha! I forgot about stickers! I used to have these sticker books and I would spend all my allowance on stickers when I was in elem. school. In high school, I have to admit that I collected New Kids on the Block posters. You couldn't even see my wall I had so many of them.

I am so ashamed to admit that! :)

I wanted to collect stuff but I just never carried it through. I'd either get bored--ie. my rock collection--or run out of money--ie. china figurines. Mostly I collected books. I could buy a Trixie Belden mystery for 59 cents (62 cents with tax--I forget about tax over here since it is added in already!)so I could buy one a week with my $1 allowance. I probably had 8-10 of the books which may have been all that were published. Then I outgrew them. Our years of moving around allowed us to collect souvenirs from various places. In Europe we collected wine glasses and vases from different cities we visited. We've been going regularly to the Maasia Market on Fridays to buy the African souvenirs we want to take home with us--and presents for people back home. But mostly here in Kenya we are collecting memories and stories of a part of the world that is very removed from anything our background has prepared us for.
