Lions and Hippos and Zebra... Oh My!

As promised, here are some pictures of some of the animals we saw on Safari! We'll start with the Lions, as they are what everyone is asking about... and what Nathan loves to talk about! Whenever anyone asks him what animals he saw, he grins and says "Roar!", which, as anyone should know, means "Lion" in Toddler Talk. These two were relaxing in the sun as we drove up, and didn't seem to mind us in the least as we took picture after picture.

These hippos were two of many we saw bathing in the river. We even saw a hippo in the river right outside our tents when we got back from our first game drive. Vivian held Nathan and the two of them watched that hippo for a long time. Vivian told me later that it was incredible to her to realize that she could stand on the bank of a river in Africa, holding her grandson and singing "Hip Hip Hippopotamus" (a kid's song by Mary Rice Hopkins) with him while watching an actual hippo. How many people can say that?

We saw Zebra from a distance during our last game drive, but these we actually saw a couple days before our Safari on our way to the Ostrich Farm. There was a herd of Zebra just roaming free, and at one point James stopped the car in the middle of the road so we could take pictures. We couldn't believe our eyes! No fences, no one taking care of them... just countless Zebra grazing on the side of the road.
